How to use the system: Unlike the Windows laptop Mark-N-Gard VIN Etching System https://www.markngard.com/product/complete-vin-etching-system/ where we print off enough stencils in advance for each vehicle (typically etching 6 or 8 pieces of glass), with this newest Mobile VIN Etching System, once we have scanned or entered the vehicle VIN into the handheld computer, we move to each piece of glass and print the stencil for that window. The reason for this is that the new stencil material is significantly more challenging to work with. For one thing, it is not sticky-backed, unlike the former material, so the application of the stencil is different. Read below for more tips.
This package includes the following components:

This software features VINchek™ VIN validation which performs a test on entered VIN’s for correctness.
Here are the installation steps:
- Using the hand-held touch computer, scan the VIN barcode. The powerful scanner handles VIN barcodes of all types and conditions whether a traditional linear barcode or square matrix type.
- Print the stencil and tear it away from the printer with a quick action. Should the printer indicate a “media error” during this step, open the roll cover and realign the stencil material.
- With the stencil in hand and using your spray bottle, dampen the shiny-side of the stencil with plain water and give it a good shake to remove excess moisture.
- Apply the stencil, shiny-side against glass, positioning it where you want it.
- Using a squeegee across the stencil has been helpful to seal the stencil against the glass while removing any excess moisture. We have included credit card sized squeegees with your system for this purpose.
- Once the stencil is sealed to the glass with dampness and the squeegee, you should be able to see the VIN image more clearly. Remember, it is always your responsibility to verify that the VIN is correct, readable, right-side up and reasonably straight.
- Before removing the etch cream cap, give the bottle a gentle squeeze to load the tip with etch cream.
- Now remove the cap and while gently squeezing bottle, dab across the image area of stencil in up and down motions…dab dab dab, overlapping each time. Be certain to cover the complete image.
- Move to the next piece of glass and repeat.
- By the time you have applied stencils to all 6 or 8 pieces of glass you can now move back to the first stencil applied. If it has been at least 3 to 5 minutes since you started on this vehicle, you are ready to remove the stencils.
- Again, leaving each piece of glass to etch for at least 3- 5 minutes, remove stencils in turn around the vehicle, being careful to discard each used stencil safely, then spray the area etched liberally with water and thoroughly dry the glass.
